Why Prices Are Soaring At The Pump (UP 50 CENTS)

WTAP News -- Prices soaring at the pump all over the valley.

Thursday, prices jumped over 50 CENTS in places around our area. Some stations are seeing almost $3.90 a gallon.

WTAP spoke to Terry Flemming the Executive Director of The Ohio
Petroleum Council to explain why we're seeing the price increase.

Flemming says the reason for the spike in gas prices is problems in piplenes at two Midwest refineries.

"That many gallons taken out of the daily production that are distributed throughout the Midwest causes shortages. When you have shortages, you're gonna see price spikes to try to keep gas in the service stations so they have fuel for those that need it. "

Flemming adds, "even if it's not coming from the Midwest, the refineries that supply you may have to divert some of the fuel that they would no

Has anyone else noticed that the highest prices, or red areas, in the central US states, matches closely the location of Speedway / Super America gas stations?

Whats up with that? !!

Why prices are soaring at the pump? Because they can and Big Oil can get away with it.
The trend is always up with fuel prices. The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon, $3 to $3.50/gallon is Not the new low!
Barry's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, without a job how can you afford to buy fuel and the vehicle to use it! Barry can spin the jobs numbers so they look much better than what they really are, he's a smooooth talker if there ever was one!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Why? because the scum bags that run big oil have a monopoly that george bush deregulated so that they could run wild and help destroy the entire countries economy.

read this yesterday...slow day for news I guess, although with oil shooting up over $4/bbl, you'd think there would be an article on that. Hmmm, maybe tomorrow, cuz I haven't seen the story anywhere as yet!

it is supply and demand and the oil companies keep the supply tight to drive the price up and their profits up even further.

Why is crude about $90 a barrel and we are still paying over $3.50+ a gallon?

50 cent increase is just too much in one day. Most of these gas stations already have the gas paid for that is stored underground. This price jump should not happen immediately. It is just a nice way for some people to make a great profit at the consumers expense.

Build more pipelines. If you can't get cheap gasoline, put the blame where it belongs on environmental interest groups and the EPA.

I can't help but be amazed at the colossal ignorance and stupidity of so many GasBuddy members. It's depressing, since there's a good chance that many of you morons are registered to vote.

I fear for the future of our country.

Well, the latest theory is oil will be at $100 by years end thanks to a nice jobs report this month.

Of course oil companies are pricing that in ahead of time.

Ms. has had a $.35 increase in the past month, but the National average is only up $.20. I don't believe this Midwest problem would be affecting us.

Price gouging at its finest.

Sillywagon, no economics explains a fifty-cent rise in one day.
