Gas prices expected to hit record territory in 2013

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —Just when gas prices were starting to stabilize, oil industry watchdogs say 2013 will be a very expensive year for drivers.

Gas prices went up in Sacramento by five cents in the last week, and up to eight cents nation-wide.

At the ARCO gas station in Sacramento County, gas was going for $3.31 on Sunday.

This may seem cheap to many drivers, but analysts warn that prices will climb from now until April.

Winter started out with some relief for drivers but Oil Industry Watchdog Charles Langley said gas will hit record territory.

"Yeah, I think we're at the point now where $4 a gallon seems cheap. I think by the end of next year we may not raise an eyebrow at $5 a gallon. I think that's where we're headed," Langley said.Leslie Broga told KCRA

The got the US used to hitting $4 or more and hovering in the high $3 range !!

We can't sustain expensive gasoline prices and have a recovery, yet Big Oil doesn't want gasoline prices below $3 again. It is an old pattern in the winter months to start raising prices until May. We only got a small break in prices after the hurricane season and they started raising prices again.

Reducing demand keeps the prices down - at least in theory. It has the nice side effect of keeping money in my wallet too. I save on brakes and tires. When you stay home, you don't spend money on crap you don't need (I don't shop on the internet either).
