I have seen cell phone usage distract drivers. I also have seen car radio, children, food, drinks etc distract drivers. Maybe inforcing inattentive driving laws would cover the problem better.

They have been in NY state for a few years now but, as I was told by a sheriff, it's a bother to pull someone over for a cellphone infraction and could pose a danger in doing so. It is a $150 fine here if they get caught but doesn't happen usually unless they can trace an accident back to the usage. They are currently passing non-texting laws as well, another dangerous driving problem, but I believe it will fall to the same roadside.

you almost have to ban them. the problem is that the people that are fine will have to suffer because of the ones that are stupid about using their phone when they drive.

Normally I would say no th this one, however when speaking to some police friends of mine, cell phone use is getting to be a major cause of auto crashes.

Ban them in cars period!!!
My grand daughter and her mom were T-boned by a driver on a cell phone who admitted he was talking on a sex line. Five years later she still suffers from TBI and will never recover, nor willher mother from her injuries. He got a ticket for running the light..they got a lifetime of misery.

Allow hands free devices.
Ban putting on lipstick, eating, text messaging, reading, getting dressed, combing hair, watching tv, watching the accident in the on coming lane, not paying attention at a stop light, sleeping, changing diapers, breast feeding, and a host of other items that are more dangerous and more common than talking on the phone.

I wouldn't say it should be banned, but it is annoying for people to drive slowly because they can't pay attention to what they're doing.

Yes! Food for Thought: It's been proven that a person has a 1 in 4 chance of having an accident, as opposed to using a cell-phone while driving increases your chances of an accident to 1 in 3..
