VA, like CA, spends too much and can't keep up with the money waste.

With the new plan, the EV owners, transit system riders, and pedestrians would pay for the infrastructure, too.

I would consider moving to Virginia except for the fact that the governor and the governor wannabe are running around the state with their vaginal probes looking for illegal vaginas. My wife would be arrested for blowing those fools away with the Bushmaster Assault weapon that I would buy for her to protect herself from oversexed conservative republican politicians who played doctor under a blanket with the neighborhood girls when they were a kid, and haven't grown up yet.

Interesting take on gas taxes. Not sure this proposal would work.

The mentality is amazing. To think that the sales tax on chips and soda at gas stations to those people that are just driving through will make up for the tax they lose on fuel the traveler purchases.

So, the state gas tax is replaced by a state sales tax, which is increased and applies to all things sold? Sounds like higher prices all around...

That sounds like an excellent idea! Not only will this proposal decrease the price of gas at the pumps but it would charge everyone who buys any taxable products for transportation, instead of just docking those who buy gas

Maintain roads by taxing the fuel and the vehicles that use the roads. Stop using those funds to pay for other items in a state's budget. Not everyone uses the roads, but everyone pays sales tax on what they buy.

Since legislators, on the whole, give NOTHING to TAXPAYERS, it seems fair.
On the other hand, tax the hell out of ILLEGAL ALIENS, and maybe they will go back where they came from.

Interesting. I agree that infrastructure is in bad shape in many areas; drive down I-64 near Norfolk or I-264 going to Virginia Beach. More revenue must be raised to effect repairs whether it be in higher fuel tax or higher sales tax.

Yes, but only if it is part of the law that the additional money can ONLY be used for roads and bridges, and not be raided by a Legislature looking to balance the state's budget.

Too many poor people don't drive, but should pay their share of road repair. We should replace income tax with 50% sales tax too.

if they can get more money out of taxpayers that way I'm sure they will that way they can get more people to get cars that get better mileage or even battery cars and still get tax money from them

yeah, this is the much more intelligent way, instead of simply requiring any request for transportation funds to prove the funds will be used for transportation
