Remember a thread a few years ago talking about ambulances and emergency vehicles? Some places didn't have a law saying drivers had to move over for ambulances, and we actually had members posting they wouldn't move over for an ambulance because they didn't have to.

situational awareness is key to being able to respond to a parked vehicle. IF you don't see the vehcle in time you won't be able to move over. When driving, that is the most important activity, not the cell phone call or text, or a bite to eat, etc....

Something as simple as slowing down can save lives. It's important to take a deep breath sometimes and think of others for a moment!

Move over or pay a steep fine. Too many people won't listen unless it costs them money or time in jail.

Everyone should be aware of this common sense safety rule. It has become rule in Canada.

Police radar vehicles and traffic stops, ambulance vehicles, traffic accidents, highway road crews, vehicles stopped along the road with a flat tire – all traffic should move over one lane to keep clear of stopped vehicles or slow way down! ANY vehicle stopped along the side of the road, drivers should slow down or move over one lane. When making traffic stops along busy or rural roads, I have seen police approach the stopped vehicle from the passenger side and talk to the driver through the passenger window. Avoiding any possibility of getting hit by a vehicle passing that area on the road. ALL public safety or emergency vehicles should have warning lights ON - OR warning signs displayed when stopped or working along all highways and roads. When this law went into effect, police were stopped alongside the freeway (with radar and emergency lights ON at 1 AM), just over a rise in the road waiting for vehicles to slow down or move over one lane. There was NO accident or a need for the police to stop alongside the road at that time, it was a traffic sting to see who they could ticket for not slowing down or moving over one lane. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
