Gas prices back on the rise

TAMPA (FOX 13) -- Just when gas prices finally seemed to be heading in the right direction, they've suddenly shot back up, overnight. According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for regular unleaded today is $3.16 a gallon.

That's up five cents from Thursday, when it was $3.11 a gallon. Prices in some areas of the bay shot-up almost a quarter overnight, which was a knee-jerk reaction, AAA reports.

And, just like in real estate, prices will vary, depending on location, location, location.

"I would not call it a spike," said Jessica Brady with AAA Tampa. "I would say there are some stations throughout the Tampa Bay area that maybe got a little optimistic about where crude oil prices were headed last week."

We would not be reading about price spikes at the pump if we had a standardized National price for gasoline across the country.

Pure speculation. Oil companies and refineries could lower the prices and still be making money.

"I would say there are some stations throughout the Tampa Bay area that got a little optimistic about where crude oil prices were headed this week."

WERE headed? How about consumers pay a price for what the crude oil price is at the MOMENT, NOT where they MIGHT be headed. Same as the minute the oil prices go up, gas prices immediately go up.

NOT the same when oil prices FALL - it could be many days before we reap the benefit of THAT!

Yes, gas prices certainly are back up in our area of MO!

All stations near us went from $3.19 per gallon for regular gas on Thursday to $3.29 per gallon today: $0.10 per gallon.

Yes, gas prices certainly are back up in our area of SC!

And that "quarter overnight" is no exaggeration here. One gas station near us went from $2.69 per gallon for regular gas on Thursday to $2.99 per gallon today: $0.30 per gallon.

Most stations were well under $3 a gallon in our area, but now are hovering right around $3.

What in the world happened?
