I have had my 2008 for 4 years now and its been quite reliable. I would likely recommend it. I have no idea what some of the posts are about including those who would rate a Corolla over the Sentra.
Originally I test drove Corollas and the Hyundai Elantra. The Corolla was the worse car for noisy bumpy ride (terrible suspension) and you had to stomp on the accelerator for fear someone behind me would rear-end me (totally gutless). The Elantra's tranny was way too loud and I had an annoying sales guy apologizing for it the entire test drive. It just didn't seem to be the same quality.
Although the Nissan sales always tried to steer me towards the Altima (which yes- is a better car- you pay more don't you?) I kept going back to the Sentra for better MPG. Whoever states the much bigger/powerful Altima is getting 30 - 50 mpg must be doing some serious wishful pipe dreaming.
The compact smaller Sentra gets only about 30-35 mpg normal combined city/highway. With the small tank I feel like I'm filling up almost as often as I did with my bigger car. Don't let anyone sell you on highway driving since you have to enter the city to get home (don't you?) Companies that advertise only hwy gas mileage are seriously unethical and misleading (IMO). Fortunately Mitsibushi or Hyundai (one of these) recognized how misleading/exaggerated their mileage claims are and offer gas cards to those who purchased their vehicles under the misleading assumption their vehicles got good mpg. Perhaps other car companies will follow suit (but I'm not holding my breath!)
What sold me on the Sentra was its smooth, quiet, gutsy ride (not like sport car gutsy- but not bad considering). The CVT helps in this regard. The only time the CVT is a bit of a drag is in extreme cold weather when it will sound a bit loud and the car needs to time to warm up before its working optimally.

I had a 2011 Sentra which got total 2 months ago. I had a 2010 Versa.
I didn't like the Sentra due to the digital fuel gauge. The new 2013 has changed. I have seen any new improvements from Nissan or Infiniti for that matter in terms of MPG. So i'm getting a Kia Rio or Optima Hybrid.

I've seen Sentra's with 200,000+ miles with maintenance intervals every 4000 miles depending on driving conditions.

You can get better mileage from a Mini although it uses premium gas and probably costs more in upkeep being a BMW-owned company now.

Just purchased a 2010 Sentra w/tech/leather/premium plus package, it was a trade-in I had a 2009 Maxima SV/Sport. I just re-located to Texas and the commute to work is about 40miles. The maxima averaged mpg was 19 and it required 91octane, the sentra is EPA 34hwy.
I think it was a wise choice for me, will save some $ in the long run. I only had the Sentra for a week now and I'm loving it! The navigation is great the screen is smaller compared to the Maximas' but the navigation is better and more user friendly in the sentra.

The Nissan Sentra is a good vehicle!!! I think it's one of the top 4 vehicles in the compact class such as the Corolla, Civic & Mazda 3!!!

I own a Sentra 2.0s for two years now and have not had any problems, except for the recall to replace a master cylinder. But, the dealership took care of it without any cost to me (except for the time factor). I'm very happpy with my Sentra. Just recently, a mom commented on how quietly my engine was while I was idling at the school parking lot. Additionally, I have no problem squeezing through narrow parking lot spaces at the malls, because of its compact size and yet it seats 5 ppl.

Sentras are good little cars. I had a '92 and it was indestructible. Only reason I traded it was because it was getting quite rusty. Honestly I probably should have kept it!

I had gotten a loaner 08 cvt sentra to drive 3hrs . the sticker said 33mpg highway, I was going around 70-85mph and the ave mpg gauge said 33.3 mpg. On the way back I wasn't in a rush so i dropped the speed down and with a few hypermiler tricks I kept the ave.mpg gauge at 40.1 mpg. One sweet car!

I wish I had chosen the 2007 Sentra SL instead of the current gas guzzler. It was on my shopping list then, as long as you pick light color leather, it will not burn you bottom. I would have selected the 6 speed manual tranny and add custom leather to the seat as the SL model does not offer manual tranny.

I just want to say, I have a 2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0S and I LOVE IT!! I ONLY buy Nissans, my father has worked for the local dealership in parts and service for as long as I can remember, and Ive never had any type of massive problems with any of them (Ive had a 1985 Sentra, a 2001 Pathfinder, a 2004 Xterra and now my Sentra).
2 weeks after I bought my Sentra, my dad bought a matching one :). Surprisingly, there is more than enough room for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - one of which is a baby) and my husband, who is 6'4 has adequate headroom. I was impressed with the options you could get on the vehicle and still paid a bit under 20K. We got ours fully loaded, minus leather (I hate leather, burns my butt) and paid just under 20K, but I did notice on the Nissan website that since I purchased mine, they have gone up a couple thousand - probably due to the demand.
I highly recommend the Sentra, for sure.

We had to rent a 2008 Sentra while our Ford Contour was in the body shop. I was impressed with the room and quality of it. The only quibble was with the way it would bounce while crusing down the road above 40 mph. It was a low frequency bounce, which made me suspect the CVT transmission. I don't know if it was just that particular car, or if it's something more widespread. I hope it was just that car, since everything else about it was great.

Leased a 03 Gxe for 2 and a half years. Only complaint was that its a small car. Just a 2 person car, no leg room for tall people in the back seat.

We bought a new Sentra GXE in 2003 and I was disappointed. I didn't like the steering, so I drove it as little as possible. We let our daughter in college use it, and of course, she didn't have any complaints since it was "free" for her. However, the belts had to be changed because they were squeaking so loud I couldn't hear her when she called me on her cellphone (and they started doing it again later), the passenger side window would stick in one place, and the driver's side mirror eventually wouldn't move at all. She rear-ended someone once and said it may have been due to the brakes; and she totalled it in a second accident when she was hit from the side by a driver running a stopsign. In both accidents, the airbags didn't deploy.

The Sentra is an amazing vehicle. I have owned two now (2002 and 2005) and absolutely loved both of them. The fuel mileage with the automatic transmission is good and the repair costs are minimal. As long as you maintain your vehicle it will give you many worry free miles. Definately the best vehicle in its class.

Not sure I understood your second sentence outafocus. Do you mean that the number of repairs on the Sentra has decreased since Nissan started producing/assembling the cars in Mexico? I wonder if Sentras will be produced at the new plant in TN.

the sentra has had a long reliable run, but it appears that Nissan is letting it go downhill. You can get an Altima leftover for a couple K more and a much better car.
I didn't buy a Nissan last time because I don't like their bullying of Uzi Nissan so I bought a Camry. Picked it up on Halloween so it was pretty new in the model year. Paid 18200 plus tax etc. It comes with everything you want in an inexpensive car but obviously not the bells and whistles like navigation.

I agree - Nissan's are very reliable. I have a 2000 Sentra, 1.8 XE (Manual transmission). My maintenance costs so far have been regular oil changes, rewiring the horn (the original wire got cut somwhow), and replacing the battery after 5 years. I also got the tranny oil changed, throttle cleaned, cooling system serviced and fuel filter replaced according to the maintenance schedule (every 30k miles). I get around 40+ mpg on the highway and between 32 and 35 mpg in town (with my style of driving). It has worked out for me quite well so far.

I can tell you that Nissan Automobile are one of if not the best made vehicles in the world. If you look at the sticker it would tell you what kind of mileage it will get, As far as Maintance Costs, Nissans are a little higher that say a Chevy Colbolt would be, But not by much, It would depend on where you take it. Take it back to the Dealer for something not covered by a Warranty and you will pay thru the nose. If you have a good honest Mechanic he will not charge as much as the dealer would. But Nissan's are very very Reliable.
