"Holy smokes!" is undoubtedly what you'd be saying if you saw this mobility scooter, built by British plumber Colin Furze. After all, it could easily speed by you on the sidewalk, only to quickly disappear into the horizon at an impressive 69mph.

The gasoline powered scooter has already hit close to 70mph and may soon be considered by the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest scooter on the earth- as long as it can go faster than 100km/h, which Colin is all but certain he can do.

The secret ingredient to this mobility scooter is a gasoline powered 125cc engine, much faster than the original battery powered system the scooter had.

According to the Daily Mail article, the scooter gets approx. 10 miles...

Why would you want to regularly go that fast on a vehicle that's not meant or built to go that fast, even if you modified it? And since, I believe, the scooter normally gets much better gas mileage before being modified, why would use that vehicle to get 10 miles to the gallon? Wouldn't you be better off simply using a slower scooter with better mileage per gallon? Or is the purpose of modifying the scooter simply to set a record, and to get into the Book of Records?

Looking at the smoke trailing the rider in the picture, it is apparently a 2 stroke engine. Thet may have something to do with the poor mileage.

If it can maintain stability at high speed, why worry about it? Too busy
trying to regulate someone over some petty issue?
