"More than half of the country was under moderate to extreme drought in June, the largest area of the contiguous United States affected by such dryness in nearly 60 years. Nearly 1,300 counties across 29 states have been declared federal disaster areas. Areas under moderate to extreme drought in June of each year are shown in orange below."Drought's Footprint

But Corn yield estimates are way down in Ohio...

"In Ohio, corn yields have been estimated at 110.5 bushels per acre, sharply below the USDA's figure of 126.0."

I see that the USDA has removed Ohio from the drought monitor watch. Apparently they have been getting some rain there now. Probably too late to improve corn for this year. Beans may be getting a little better.

Actually, in Chicago area prices have spiked due to disruptions of capacity at refiniries. Also a disruption in supply due to a pipeline.

In addition there was a large fire in California knocking out production in California.

This drives up prices....

it is due to because of all the synthetic pesticides that are taking a toll on the environment and the corn fields. Corn has had enough of those insane pesticides stop commercial production of ethanol. We need a more modern engine.

"they are going up because of the looming catastrophe from our oil sources in the middle east!'

For someone who claims they make a living from selling gasoline, you sure don't know much about how it's priced...

So we produce less corn because of the drought; feed for livestock and a source of ethanol. At what point do we select food or fuel? Less ethanol available, gas prices go up. Less food for the livestock, less food for humans.
